Second racer evacuated from the course

Joe Gabor of Team Running Free / Dead Reckoning was suffering from some sort of ailment or bug and it wasn't getting any better. Shortly after arriving at CP2, located on an exposed mountaintop,Joe decided he was unable to continue.

Faced with an 8 hour trek back to CP1 and possibly an even longer trek to CP3
his teammates called for assistance and a helicopter was dispatched to remove him from an exposed ridge well above the treeline. A race medic met him at the heliport in Queen Charlotte City and accompanied him to hospital.

At the hospital he was examined by a local doctor, and then transported to Base Camp with the medics. After a change of clothing and some food has been taken to a local cottage to rest.

I had a chat with him when he arrived back at Base Camp and he says he'll be fine and his teammates are continuing unranked.
