The Hebridean Challenge 2008
Day 3 - Puffing and blowing
Pyro / 05.07.2008

The MTBers would get their first proper taste of the Harris and Lewis hills, riding a route used in the past as the MTB Time Trial. Their loop from Druim na Chaoraich over two high passes, skirting the edge of Stuabhal, then ending along the gravel track at Glean Mhiabhaig was complicated by the weather still, riders struggling against a strong headwind for the whole of the 7km gravel track. They also battled the wind on their later stage, riding from the hydro power station above Loch Leosaid up to a checkpoint just below the largest overhanging rock face in Britain at Sron Ulladale.
