A Leap of Faith at Bergamo

The first stage of the Rewoolution Raid Summer 2012, a multidisciplinary sporting event took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July in the picturesque setting of Città Alta, Bergamo and 38 teams gathered to take part in the first heat of the summer.
Armed with ‘Road Books’, on foot or by mountain bike, each participant launched from their starting position to tackle the race which took place in an unusual but nevertheless thrilling outdoor setting: the city of Bergamo’s ‘urban jungle’.
Each team, made up of three participants challenged themselves on a varied route that included orienteering-based trail running and mountain biking, in search of checkpoints scattered around the area.
The special trials, which the teams undertook, were particularly exciting: climbing, zip-wire, and abseiling; but especially the bag jump, a brand new addition to the Rewoolution brand of Raids. The Summer Raid put each participant’s courage to the test as they leapt from the walls of Città Alta, from a height of around 10 metres, to land on the huge inflatable mattress.
The winners of the Summer Raid’s first stage in the Pro category was the team Pedini-Iret (R. Mattioli – A. Visioli – M. Sartor) – who completed the course with a final time of 01:41:03 – and team Firefox were victors in the Amateur category with a time of 01:11:18. Excellent results that will push more teams to repeat their efforts in the Nago-Torbole stage (22 – 23 September), which could earn them the final coveted prize.
The team that finishes with the best overall ranking from the two summer stages will win a trip to New Zealand, offered by ZQ in collaboration with Rewoolution. But that’s not all, a randomly chosen team, which has taken part in both stages, will fly to New Zealand to learn about the land of Merino wool.
