Terra Traverse Adventure Race Launched

01.11.2007
Barrett Productions, along with Race Directors Ian Adamson and Isaac Wilson, have announced the advent of a new Expedition Adventure Race, Terra Traverseâ„¢.

Terra Traverseâ„¢ have looked long and hard at existing races and aim to present a better, faster, more exciting race; a format favored by racers. They plan on the integration of innovative and successful elements such as individual and team time trials; increased sponsor opportunities and benefits; all aimed at delivering the most compelling adventure race ever staged.

Terra Traverseâ„¢ will stage its first event the last week of September 2008. The first Terra Traverseâ„¢ event will include 75 four-person co-ed teams covering approximately 600 kilometers across the stunning province of Quebec, Canada. The race will be a seven day expedition stage race, incorporating aspects of traditional expedition races. Additionally, the race will include exciting new challenges for the greatest endurance athletes on Earth.

The intention is to offer the awe-inspiring appeal of a true "expedition race" that will provide a continuous journey, incorporating wilderness; rural and sub rural areas (possibly urban); villages; cultural, geographic, topographic, natural and man made highlights.

Terra Traverseâ„¢ will provide an extreme and diverse collection of race disciplines that have come to be expected by racers and television viewers alike. Disciplines in Terra Traverseâ„¢ may include: orienteering/ navigation, mountain and road biking, running, trekking, hiking, mountaineering, canoeing, kayaking and/or white water rafting, technical climbing, big wall rappelling, split course, horseback riding, river swimming, canyoneering, coasteering, as well as other technical disciplines to fit the terrain, course and incorporate the local culture.

"After careful consideration of past races and events from the viewpoint of participants, race management audience and television production, we have designed a race format that works best for all parties. Considerable thought and research led us to the conclusion that a staged expedition journey is the right choice," Adamson commented.

Terra Traverseâ„¢ capitalizes on Ian and Isaac's wealth of AR experience and allows the creation of an apex event by creating a blend of formats and approaches that truly draws the very best from all previous events and leaves the identified pitfalls behind.

"With an innovative format that racers, sponsors, television networks and viewers will enjoy, a stunning location in Quebec, and two of the sports' most successful, recognizable and respected individuals (Adamson & Wilson) joining the team, we set out to create an event that will take Adventure Racing as not only a sport but as a sporting property to the next level. Terra Traverse? begins a new era for Adventure Racing," stated John Barrett, "and we couldn't be more excited about this event."

Registration will begin in November 15th with a cap of 75 teams. Registration fees will be US$10,000 per team. Detailed information will be available at http://www.terratraverse.com in the coming days. For immediate contact e-mail info@terratraverse.com.
