XVI Red Fox Adventure Race
Karelia To Host the 2017 AR European Champs in Russia
Press Release / 28.10.2016
From June 9-13th on t the coast of the largest European fresh-water lake, in Karelia the XVI Red Fox Adventure Race powered by Polartec® will host the 2017 European Championship.
The organising team are promising a fast-paced race with multiple stage changes, which is a departure from recent AR Euro Championships which have run on tactical/navigational courses with optional checkpoints.
The race stages are already announced and during the long course, 72 hours non-stop race Europe’s strongest teams will bike 204 km, paddle 108 km on kayaks and walk 77 km in total. There will be 4 fixed ropes and 3 rock climbing routes. And for the first time for the Red Fox Adventure Race the participants will use paddleboards for a distance of 5.5 km.
The site of the AREC 2017 is a location that will challenge even the strongest teams. The Karelian Peninsula is famous for an austere beauty, severe weather conditions and picturesque landscapes. Here you can find everything for adventure race masters. Kayaking routes are laid along amazing labyrinths of islands and skerries. During the trekking sections racers will navigate through densely wooded hilly terrain with many challenging walls of rocks. As you might guess, the mountain bike stages will be a dynamic mix of forest trails and asphalt roads.
The race is well established and is organised by a team who have been running the event since 2003, making one of the oldest races in Europe. The event sponsor is Russia’s leading outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturer, and they too have been supporting the race for some years.
