Australia's Largest Off-Road Triathlon: X-Adventure Dunsborough

Press Release / 13.11.2018

Entries are now open to Australia's largest off-road triathlon, X-Adventure Dunsborough, held in the pristine wilderness of south-west Western Australia on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March 2019.

X-Adventure is the ultimate mix of triathlon and adventure racing; featuring ocean swimming, trail running and mountain biking in the beautiful Meelup Regional Park and crystal clear waters of Geographe Bay.

Conducted with a friendly, welcoming race atmosphere the weekend features five different off-road races that will attract over 1,500 competitors and several thousand spectators. Held over two days, the premier Long Course race is also the 2019 WA State Cross-Tri Championships.

Sam Maffett, General Manager from race organisers Rapid Ascent said he was excited to announce entries are now open to the seventh edition of X-Adventure Dunsborough. "The landscape around Dunsborough is perfect for the X-Adventure races, the water is a beautiful turquoise, the granite coastline provides superb trail running and some of WA's best mountain biking is right on the door step," Maffett said. "Athletes of all abilities are welcome. Some of Australia's fastest off-road racers will be up-front but the race atmosphere is very inclusive and encouraging of all athletes, especially with the popular teams categories meaning people need only do one leg to still be involved."

The premier event, the X-Adventure Long Course includes 34kms of action with a 1500m ocean swim, 12km coastal trail run, and 20km mountain bike. It attracts a range of racers from corporate relay teams through to weekend warriors and elite athletes.

Former XTERRA professional athlete Catherine Sterling (United States) won the event in 2017. "That was really fun, I really liked the swim, run, bike format, which mixes up the traditional order of triathlon racing," Sterling said. "The technicality of the running was challenging, but what a great course, what an awesome venue, and lots of people cheering; this is a really fun place."

Simon Billeau (France), renowned triathlete and multiple X-Adventure competitor has nothing but praise for the course. "This is a fantastic course, even though it was tough; it's a great race in such a stunning location - Dunsborough you are very lucky to have this race here." Billeau said.

The weekend also includes a short course option (750m ocean swim, 6.2km coastal trail run, and 12km mountain bike), the return of the Aquathlon-X (1km swim, 5km trail run) and two further events designed especially for kids meaning that the sporting stars of tomorrow have a chance to join the fun.

Located on beautiful Geographe Bay, Dunsborough is renowned for its stunning coastal trails, beautiful blue water and awe-inspiring scenery. The courses stretch into the untouched Meelup Regional Park with all races taking in the sculpted granite coastline, wildflower lined running tracks and the extensive network of mountain bike single track.
