The Coastal Challenge (TCC), one of the most challenging trail running competitions in the world, will take place from February 11th to 16th in Costa Rica’s southern coast. This multi-staged race is considered one of the world's best. And noticeably a one of a kind multi-staged race.

The 14th edition of the event will bring together 110 racers who will cross rivers, beaches and mountains throughout six days; a 236km route in “Expedition Run” category and 155km for the "Adventure Run" category. Each stage ranges between 20 and 60km.

"TCC is a challenging race, on a physical and mental level due to the variety of scenarios, the weather and the distances on each stage... Competitors love the challenge, but also enjoy the opportunity to get to know Costa Rica’s tropical lush rainforests. Each year the race calls pro and amateur runners from all continents… They love the country and the TCC unique experience,” said Rodrigo Carazo, Race Director.

Athletes from United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Colombia, Canada, Mexico and others would take the start line. Names as Michael Wardian (USA), Timothy Olson (USA), Tom Evans (United Kingdom) and Hayden Hawks (USA) are called to fight for the first place. While Ester Alves (Portugal) and Ragna Debats (Spain) will run for the women podium.

Costa Rica will be represented by Ashur Youssefi, Neruda Céspedes and Erick Agüero. 2018 edition could be the opportunity for them to push into the top 3 for the race. Agüero finished 4th on TCC 2017 & Youssefi has been second twice.

TCC total elevation gain is over 10,000 meters. The elevation, among other factors such as tropical weather and terrain conditions make this a unique race. They will run among paradisiac landscapes such as Playa Dominical, Nauyaca Waterfalls, Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, the Sierpe mangroves and the beaches south of Drake Bay.

This year's race is a prelude for TCC 15th anniversary. The organization is already working hard for next year’s celebration and have surprises for the competitors, including a special discounted entry fee for the 15th edition.

"TCC has established itself as one of the toughest competitions in the world. It's a grand responsibility as race directors, but it also pushes us to innovate for our 15th anniversary. We are planning a great party! A tough race with pro and amateur athletes from all around the world. They have supported us during these years and that’s why we’re having this special discounted entry fee.
