Press Release / 12.02.2018
The Coastal Challenge Adventure began today for +110 racers at Costa Rica’s South Pacific Coast. TCC is one of the most important trail running races on the year. They runned 35km from Playa del Rey (Quepos, Puntarenas) to Valle del Río Savegre. A hot weather welcomed them in their 1st day of adventure in Costa Rica.
British runner Tom Evans was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 35 seconds. He was followed by Hayden Hawks (United States) with only 4:17 minutes difference and Marcus Scotney (2:47:18 - United Kingdom), who came in third place.
"TCC first stage is always complicated for competitors, the heat stroke, the jungle near Savegre River Camp… It’s like a short taste of what is coming on the following days. They run after a 2.30 hours trip from San Jose to the start line... their day started around 3:00 am," said Rodrigo Carazo, Race Director.
Competitors usually take this first day calmly, saving forces and focusing on acclimating to the south pacific weather.
Neruda Céspedes was the first “Tico” to cross the finish line (3:15:05 hours); he got the 6th place on the race.
For the girls, today’s winner was Ragna Debats (Holland) winning time was 3 hours, 20 minutes and 55 seconds, followed by Ester Alves from Portugal (3:34:16) and Mirta Realpe from Colombia (3: 35:51).

On Monday the race will start at 6 o'clock in the morning from the Savegre River Valley to Dominical Beach.
