The Coastal Challenge Racers Meet Costa Rica’s Beach at Playa Dominical

The Coastal Challenge, one of the top trail running races in the world visited Dominical Beach after a 39km route where athletes suffered from high temperatures and the up-downs of the Cordillera de Talamanca.
The race started at Rafiki Camp (Río Savegre) and included +30km of mountain and rain forest, followed by a 10km run on the beach. Just after crossing the Barú River, the trail runners found the finish line at Playa Dominical.
It was a heavy day, with high temperature but great finish times for pro racers. Tom Evans was first with 3:41:52. Second place was for Hayden Hawks (3:41:56) followed by Timothy Olson (3:48:17). Timothy had a great race today after a tough first day yesterday.
Girls podium kept the same first & second place with Ragna Debats (4:24:24) and Ester Alves (5:15:58). Suzanna Guadarrama 5:30:26 finished third.
Ticos Are Running Their Own Race
Costa Rica’s trail runners had a hard-fought today; the top 3 ticos finished with less than 4 minutes’ difference. Jorge Paniagua (4:31:46) finished on the 6th position, followed by Neruda Céspedes (4:32:26) and Ashur Youseffi (4:35:36).
Erick Agüero was not in his lucky day and lost almost 20 minutes from them. He was 10th on the stage but finished on 4:52:34 hours.
The Whale’s Tail Awaits
TCC athletes has a great stage tomorrow. They will visit Nauyaca Waterfalls, followed by a river trail and finish their race at Marino Ballena National Park. This park is world-famous because ot the Whale’s tail. A cetaceous - form sand formation.
TCC consists of 6 stages with distances between 35 and 60km. It's a +236km route for "Expedition" category and a 155km for "Adventure. Runners will run through uneven terrain, beaches and high temperatures.
