Ultra-Trail World Tour - CCC
Tom Evans Times It Perfectly to Win CCC
Press Release / 03.09.2018
On Friday night, Welshman Tom Evans won the 2018 CCC® in "typically British" weather, perfectly managing his race. Kilometer after kilometer he gained ground on Chinese runner Min Qi, who had led the race for almost 90km before being "left in the dust" by the young Welshman. Tom Evans let the two "speed demons," Min Qi (winner of the 2018 Hong Kong 100) and Marco De Gasperi (ITA), run out in front during the first half of the race before starting his amazing effort to catch up, take over the lead, and finish in first place.
After a difficult start, Pau Capell (ESP), who won the TDS® in 2016, also enjoyed an incredible second wind during the latter part of the race. "The start of the race was a challenge for me. My legs just weren't there, I didn't feel it," explained Capell, who ended up finishing in 3rd place. "But thankfully, I got my strength back and felt good throughout the second half of the course," said the Ultra-Trail® World Tour's current leader.
The 2018 CCC® provided a little more proof that China has finally arrived on the world trail running stage. Following Erenjia Jia's OCC win and Min Qi's second place in the CCC® for the men, Mia Yao's victory in the women's race definitively confirms the rise and talent of Chinese trail runners. Like her boyfriend Min Qi, Mia Yao took the lead early in the race, leaving behind her renowned competitors Ida Nilsson (SE), Katie Schide (USA), and Anne-Lise Rousset (FR).
She maintained the lead all the way to the end, finishing the race in first place in 11:57:46. Katie Schide crossed the finish line in second place, the position she held all throughout the race. Ida Nilsson took third place among the women, overtaking Anne-Lise Rousset (4th) in Trient, 30km from the finish line.
