In the third day of the HUAIRASINCHI Movistar 2017 race, the first teams arrived at the finish line in the Hosteria San Francisco in Chachimbiro during the evening and night. The first elite team to finish the arduous route was #10 Terra Aventura Finalin at 9:20 pm. The young Ecuadorian team described how they were happy after finishing the race, how the route was very technical and demanding, and how at the beginning of their race their only goal was to finish the competition together as a team.

In the adventure categories, the first teams arrived around 6 in the afternoon and by midnight all but one adventure team had finished.

We remind people following the race that the official race results will be published on Wednesday, after analyzing all penalizations and observations by race judges in the checkpoints.

The third day of the race saw an important modification to the route as teams advanced through the last stages of the race. In the early hours of the morning, race organizers made the decision to modify the remaining stages in the race due to weather conditions and the subsequent lack of access required for stage 7, the páramos of Piñan. As teams exited the kayak stage, they were informed that Stage 7 would be eliminated and that the course would be modified. The modification was made due to security concerns based on current weather conditions. As a result of this modification, the next stage in the race became the final stage, with 140 km of mountain bike.

In the morning most teams were still completing the orientation kayak around San Pablo Lake. Afterwards they picked up their bikes to make the long trip through the final leg to the finish line. This last section offered a difficult climb to the race’s highest point, 3700 masl, passing through secondary roads and narrow paths with impressing views of the highlands, paramo, and craggy peaks of the sierra.

Of the 23 elite teams to start the race, only 12 are still racing with one team listed as unranked because of a withdrawal of one of the team members. No adventure teams have withdrawn, but one is unranked. (Ed. At the time of publishing, Agde Raid, Fenix Multisport and Life Adventure have also reached the finish line.)

The organization expects most elite teams to reach the finish line in the morning and afternoon of Tuesday. Teams have until midnight Tuesday to finish the route.
