Perfect Weather for The Wildest Peaks
Press Release / 03.02.2020
After four years of trying the elusive perfect winter’s day finally arrived for this year’s Wildest Peaks Trail Run – cold, crisp, big blue skies and views to die for ... it was the dream!
The weather is most certainly the one thing we can’t control as organisers but when we first dreamt up the route for the Wildest Peaks Trail Run this is how we imagined it. A crystal clear winter's morning, running the very best tracks and trails that the Eastern Moors has to offer – our “dream” finally came to fruition on Sunday.
Despite our “perfect conditions” the overnight frost left many sections very slippery and there were plenty of slips and slides for many of the 280+ starters – but judging by the smiles at the finish it did little to spoil the fun, possibly just added to it!
Andy Tarry, North Derbyshire RC (51:31) and Jessica Fawcett (1:00:06) were the day’s fastest man and woman on the short course, with Marcin Zaleski of Matlock Athletic Club (1:59:16) and Lucy Gossage (2:20:16) taking top honours on the long course. For most, however, the time was irrelevant, what was important was enjoying the fabulous trail running in the majestic and diverse Peak District scenery, finished off with that all important piece of cake and a warm cuppa!
