Venture Trust and the OMM Announce Partnership For 2013

News Release / 18.02.2013

Venture Trust is delighted to announce that we will be working in partnership with the OMM during 2013 and are extremely excited that the OMM have chosen to work with us this year.

The outdoor background and ethos of both Venture Trust and the OMM undoubtedly make them the perfect fit. Venture Trust is ecstatic to have found another organisation that shares its belief in the power of the wilderness and how it can strongly impact on everyone, but particularly the lives of young people.

Venture Trust supports many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including people who have been in care and those who are homeless or dealing with issues, such as abuse or addiction. Our outdoor wilderness based programmes are designed to enable our participants to develop more positive and productive attitudes and behaviours, with the intended outcome of helping them find a job, get back into education, rebuild relationships with their families and stop offending.

Both organisations have a lot planned for the partnership this year, including; for £1 of each event participants’ entry to be donated to Venture Trust and offering the chance for event participants to fundraise for Venture Trust and learn more about us. The extra funding this partnership will provide will help Venture Trust to meet its target of supporting 1,500 people over the next three years, enabling more disadvantaged young people to change their lives for the better.

Holly Child, who heads up Venture Trust’s event fundraising said, “We are delighted that we will be working closely with the OMM and its event participants throughout the next twelve months”.

About Venture Trust:

Venture Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales (number 285891) and Scotland (SC038932).

Venture Trust supports people who are struggling with complicated life circumstances such as being ‘looked after’ by Local Authorities, involvement in offending, homelessness, drug and alcohol misuse, caring responsibilities and other complications in their lives – situations often compounded by lack of access to services or low educational achievement, leaving them isolated, marginalised or in poverty.

Through time, space and intensive support in a wilderness setting, Venture Trust helps people recognise what they need to change, then gives them the confidence, motivation and tools they need to make those changes. By tackling a range of physical, emotional and social challenges, participants are able to increase their aspirations, confidence and motivation, and to develop the skills they need to reach and sustain opportunities in education, employment, training and voluntary work. Venture Trust programmes are underpinned by strong community-based outreach support - helping participants evaluate their learning, and consider how to put lessons to work when they return to their communities.

In 2011/12, Venture Trust supported, encouraged and inspired over 800 vulnerable, excluded and 'hard to reach' young people. After taking part in a Venture Trust programmes, two thirds of participants show demonstrably improved levels of confidence, more than seven in ten are more employable, and over half have improved the stability of their lifestyles (for example by reducing their alcohol use, finding permanent accommodation, or stopping offending). Two thirds of our participants have improved the quality of their relationships with those around them, and the same number have improved their use of services in their local areas (such as registering with a doctor, using the library, or accessing counselling or mental health support)
