Adventure Racing World Series Adopts Standard Mandatory Equipment List
News Release / 27.02.2013
The Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) is announcing the introduction of a standard Mandatory Equipment List for ARWS Qualifier races. This standard list has been developed from a consultation process over the last five months.
Currently, each race organiser prescribes their own specific list of equipment that teams must carry while participating in their race for safety purposes. This resulted in difficulties for teams when they travelled between races as they had to obtain different equipment for each race.
By standardizing the Mandatory Equipment List, the inconsistencies and additional costs currently encountered by teams as they travel the world to race at different qualifier events will be reduced.
ARWS director Craig Bycroft said, "It is a great step forward by the series and credit goes to each of the Qualifiers for working together to improve the situation."
The Costa Rica Adventure Race and host of the 2013 Adventure Racing World Championship have confirmed that this year's world championship will use the standard Mandatory Equipment List.
ARWS races were quick to confirm their use of the new Mandatory Equipment List. The following races will use the new Mandatory Equipment List include Ecomotion (Brazil), Expedition Africa (South Africa), XPD Expedition Race (Australia), Gold Rush Motherlode (USA), Huairasinchi (Ecuador), Adidas TERREX (UK), Godzone Adventure 2014 (New Zealand), Untamed NE (USA) and The APEX Race (Switzerland).
