Registration Opens For 2013 GoPro Mountain Games in Vail

With a new title sponsor injecting new energy into the event, the Vail Valley Foundation is pleased to announce that registration for the GoPro Mountain Games is now open. The 12th installment of the country’s largest celebration of outdoor lifestyle returns to Vail, Colo., June 6-9. Over 3,000 amateur and professional athletes and 50,000 spectators are expected to participate. Registration is open at www.gopromountaingames.com.
“There’s a lot of buzz about this summer’s GoPro Mountain Games thanks to our new sponsor,” said Mike Imhof, SVP of Sales & Operations for the Vail Valley Foundation. “GoPro is one of the world’s leading action sports brands and with their support this summer’s Mountain Games will be the best and biggest yet."
The GoPro title sponsorship means that athletes and spectators will be better suited to share their Mountain Games experiences through a global media footprint. “The content that will come out of this year’s GoPro Mountain Games is going to be amazing,” continued Imhof. “We are going to see perspectives we have never seen before.”
At the GoPro Mountain Games, amateur and professional athletes from nine sports and 25 disciplines converge on the rivers and trails of Vail to compete for more than $100,000 in prize money. Sports at the festival include slopestyle, road and mountain biking, trail running, a half marathon, kayaking, rafting, stand-up-paddling, slacklining, rock climbing and fly-fishing. In addition to adventure sports, the festival includes the Outdoor Reels Film Series, Outside Adventure Film School and the Mountain Click photography competition.
Music will once again be a centerpiece of the event, with nightly free concerts, yet to be announced. In years past, the Mountain Games has included performances by Jurassic 5, the Nappy Roots, Mix Master Mike, the Flobots and many more.
The GoPro Mountain Games have a family-friendly atmosphere with a myriad of fun and free activities like interactive exhibitions, Gear Town, demo and family areas, and the ever-popular DockDog competitions.
