1500 To tackle Inaugural X-Adventure This Weekend
News Release / 18.03.2013
(Dunsborough, Western Australia) The inaugural X-Adventure off-road triathlon will see 1,500 multisport participants head to Dunsborough, Western Australia this weekend, March 23 to 24, 2013.
X-Adventure is a cross between a triathlon and adventure race, combining ocean swimming, trail running and mountain bike riding into a spectacular course through Dunsborough’s wilderness paradise; based at the Dunsborough Country Club.
Organiser, Rapid Ascent are excited about the numbers attracted to the first-time event, promising a festive sporting spectacle to rival the other event they run ‘down south’, the Augusta Adventure Fest (formally Anaconda) which is widely known as the world’s largest adventure race held at Augusta, WA.
Held in the heart of the beautiful Meelup Regional Park, the X-Adventure Long Course consists of a 1500m ocean swim, 12.5km coastal train run, and a 25km mountain bike. A shorter distance, the X-Adventure Mini, and a tailored children’s race, the X-Adventure Kids are also on the program, specifically designed for those new to the sport, and tomorrow’s multisport stars.
Participants will swim in an ocean of turquoise water, run along a sculpted granite coastline interspersed with golden sandy beaches, and mountain bike on roller coaster single track through fields of wildflowers and native grasstrees, meaning they will hardly notice the pain in their legs brought on by the rigorous course.
Of the 1,500 starters, 15% hail from the local region of Dunsborough, Busselton and Margaret River, whilst the remainder of the field are in for a weekend away in one of the state’s most popular holiday destination.
Amongst the field are a number of husband and wife duo’s; friends participating in a triathlon for the first time; seasoned adventure races; school groups; and elite athletes such as former WA Triathete of the Year, Sean O’Neill; and Olympic rowing representative Ben Cureton.
Online entries close 9am (AEDST) Wednesday 20 March; with limited entries available in person during registration on Saturday at the event venue. Interested competitors can be part of the X-factor as an individual or relay team member in either the long, short or Kids races.
