Saab Salomon Adventure Runners

News Release / 11.05.2006
Building on their phenomenal success in 2005 Team Saab Salomon’s running team, the UK’s leading adventure running team, is aiming to break even more international records this season, with its focus firmly on retaining prime position on the international stage of mountain and sky running.

Comprising four of the world’s top endurance athletes, Rob Jebb, Simon Booth, Nick Sharp and Angela Mudge, the team is currently preparing for a full and varied programme of racing over the next few months.

Rob Jebb, who was crowned 2005 Sky Running World Champion, following a succession of awesome international results, is set to defend his world title. Simon Booth, the current British Fell and Mountain Running champion, currently ranked as Number Two in the world, and Nick Sharp, currently ranked Number Five, are also determined to challenge their personal best. This year they are joined by the formidable talent of Angela Mudge, a previous World Mountain Running Champion and one of the most successful female athletes in the UK.

The 100% British squad is currently undergoing rigorous training ahead of the 42 kilometre Zegama-Aizkorri Alpine Marathon which takes place in Spain on 28th May. This race is one of the most gruelling and demanding in the prestigious Buff Sky Running Championship series. Last year Rob Jebb broke all previous records in this race by an incredible 12 minutes and Simon Booth took second place, just five minutes behind Rob. They are the only two men in history to have completed the route in under 4 hours, until then a feat not thought possible.

The course, which has a total elevation gain of 5,472 metres on the Aratz Massif, follows a series of stunning mountain paths and trails with many demanding technical ascents and descents, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,551 metres.
