Kokoda Challenge

Kokoda Challenge Assoc Inc / 25.05.2006
The Kokoda Challenge is designed to reflect the key elements of the Spirit of our nation.

The Challenge requires an appropriate and committed training programme. Much of the trek covers difficult terrain, And you will be in open country for many hours. It is important that you plan and train for the event well in advance.

The 4 Team members who Start the Event Must be the SAME 4 Team Members who FINISH the Event

A suggested training programme will be found under training. Upon registration a comprehensive 25 page Competitors Information Manual will be provided.

The challenge is NOT a navigational exercise - detailed maps and instructions of the 96km route will also be supplied upon registration and we would recommend that, where possible, some of your training take place on the actual route.
Whilst the Kokoda Challenge is tough and demanding (and of course if you want to achieve the times of the top finishing teams in 2005) then you will need to be extremely fit and of course train appropriately. However, if you are moderately fit and are prepared to follow the training programme such as outlined on this site then it is very achievable. When mapping the route before the 2005 event we had many people test the track to make sure it was possible and we even had a 60+ year old (although a very experienced bushwalker) able to complete the course in just over 26 hours
