BARC Final T.V. Coverage
Rob / 24.12.2002
The last show in the Channel 4 (UK) series on the British Adventure Racing Championships will screen on Saturday 28th December at 7am. So get up early or set your videos as it’s going to be spectacular. The show covers the final in North Wales, and the locations for the race, and the film, were stunning. The weather was perfect, the competition was good, and the pictures will be some of the best ever shot of AR in Britain. From the start on Black Rock sands with Criccieth Castle in the background, to the orienteering in Portmeirion, the white water rafting, sea kayaking and through to the finish in the magnificent setting of Caernarfon Castle the race showed Snowdonia and adventure racing at it’s best.
The series has already been a remarkable success, with viewing figures far beyond expectations and has created something of a stir among the TV networks. Perhaps they are realising what we already know – it’s a great sport, and it’s visually spectacular. With a total of 76 hours of airtime and viewing figures approaching half a million for each programme Channel 4 have had no hesitation in agreeing to do it all again in 2003. (Tell your prospective team sponsors now folks!) There will be 6 programmes to be shown in the autumn.
Meanwhile you can sit back and enjoy the final of the first series very shortly. Perfect inspiration for the year ahead.
