Evening Questars Off to a Good Start

Soaring temperatures did nothing to keep racers away from the first ever Questars evening event, a mini race and training event where you could turn up after work. As a new experiment it was a great success.55 enthusiastic runners and cyclists turned up to race in Bracknell Forest on August 5th, where 10 running and twelve cycling markers were laid out, enticing people to collect as many points as they could. The emphasis of the evening though, was to go out into Bracknell Forest and have fun so teams could choose whether to bike, run or have a go at both.
Many of the checkpoints were to be found in the North of the forest, whilst those who opted for a longer challenge could go South and attempt the warren of unmarked tracks making navigation particularly difficult.
Two of the running teams - the Prices and Humphrey & Damian Wilson, managed to get all of the checkpoints with just minutes to spare whilst the cyclists seem to have a slightly easier time with four teams managing to complete the course. Both Paul McClellan and Gates & Shoney were well within the allotted time but then opted to call it a day and not continue with a running stage.
Of the teams that attempted the two disciplines the Mars team – Andrew, Jane and Peter, accumulating 225 points and the overall winner was Neville Baker who collected 235 points.
The weather won’t always be so good, but it looks like this new idea will be a handy addition to the calendar, and perhaps the idea will spread with more informal training races elsewhere around the country.
The next evening Questars will be on Tuesday, 19th August between 6pm and 7pm – see their web site for details.
