Beware the Quoll is Coming
SleepMonsters Aus & Mike Coleman / 01.08.2006
The 2006 Quoll adventuregaine will commence on Sat 5 August in the hinterlands of Cairns. This annual event has become the most challenging event on the North Queensland Adventure Race and Rogaining Calender.
Course designer Adam Fletcher has come up with an innovative concept with a mixture of adventure racing/rogaining and orienteering to challenge athletes of all levels.
This year there are 3 categories, 34hrs, 16hrs and 7 hrs with teams racing against the clock and each other. Tactics and decision making will play a very important part of this event.
The 34 hour main event will commence at 0600 on Sat morning and for a first in Cairns, it will be an unsupported event. This means competitors will have to organise themselves for the entire race and wont have the luxury of backup teams.
This category will have 10 stages using rogaining/ orienteering rules and the 3 disciplines of hiking, mountain biking and canoeing.
The main event will be non stop and sleep at your peril. To enter in any category teams must have either 2 members or 4 members.
The 16 hour category has a midnight start Saturday which will also tax competitors as little sleep will be had prior to the start .
