Blackmores Mountain Man Tri Challenge Gloucester
Wendy Hughes Hon Secretary, Gloucester Tri Challenge & SleepMonsters Australia / 11.09.2006
Sadly the 16th Annual Blackmore's Mountain Man Tri Challenge was cancelled at the last minute on Sunday. This was a difficult decision to make, but due to four days of rain, there were safety issues to consider. The Committee will convene shortly to discuss the issue of refunds. Naturally, we do have expenses to cover and this will be taken into consideration. We will contact every competitor by mail or email after that meeting.Further adding to this S.E.S. crews had been on the go out of Taree sandbagging till 4am on the race day and were placed on standby, these crews were to be utilised on the river at approx 7 points.
Also with snow in the Barringtons in the days leading up to the race it meant the river level was on the rise, in a previous event the river level did hit 0.7m but was dropping, this year in actual fact by 10am the level was 0.7m and by monday was around 0.9m mark.
Concerns were had also arisen over the MTB course across the Gloucester Bucketts as safety crews could not get access in the event of an accident, so it was a tough call to be made by the organisers, but competitors will be advised of the outcome of the meeting.
The next Tri Challenge will take place on September 9, 2007.
