The Queenstown 45 Adventure Race
SleepMonsters Aus / 28.09.2006
Looking for something to do over Easter, and feel like getting overseas, with airfares the way they are its going to be more affordable to do so.So what is the Q45, The Queenstown 45 is on Easter Weekend, 6th –9th April 07, it is open to 2 (mixed or single sex) or 4 person teams (one of opposite sex)with Separate Open & Corporate sections, it will entail 40 odd hours of racing for the fastest teams, 54 hours for the slowest teams - all teams completing the same course.
Disciplines will include Mountain running/hiking, Mountain biking (note, ride-able courses a priority), kayaking (inflatable kayaks (Fun-Yaks), paddles & buoyancy aids provided), rafting and navigation. Other disciplines will also be included from time to time as the course may require or to keep the race fresh.
The terrain will be low enough to avoid avalanche risk or the need to have ice axes and crampons, but high enough to be considered “high countryâ€. A key race strategy is to where possible use terrain that would otherwise be inaccessible to the public (i.e private land) and from time to time to include existing adventure activities as part of the race such as Via Ferrata.
Registration fee for The Queenstown 45 Adventure Race is $495NZ per person. Fee includes one set of maps per person, watercraft provided and a ticket to the awards banquet/dinner. Extra tickets will be available for purchase later.
