Team Bagelworks Wins Moab Xstream Expedition Race

News Release / 12.10.2006
Together the teams traveled to over 18 Check Points, trekked to peaks of over 12,000 feet during a storm, successfully navigated sections of mountain biking, trekking, flat and white-water paddling, and a ropes course that included a via-ferrata, a rappel of almost 250 feet and waterfalls ... all during the Storm of the Century in Moab.

Torrential rain pummeled Southeastern Utah this past weekend in one of the worst storms seen in over 100 years in Moab, forcing race organizers to shorten the course. Team BagelWorks took 1st place in the 4 person Co-ed category followed by Team Go Lite/Timberland Sprint and Team NW Nike ACG. Jan & Kim Bear of Team Santa Fe Bear Pair came in 3rd overall and 1st in the 2-person co-ed racing category.

“All of the teams have something to be proud of as they all pressed on and persevered despite torrential rain, 60 mph winds, flash floods, mud slides, snow squalls, hail, mechanical difficulties and more,” said Will Newcomer, Race Director.

Many of the teams remained gathered at the post race party – sharing the agony of the preceding days while recalling the funny moments, beautiful scenery and sleep deprived hallucinations.

Winners of the 2006 Xstream Expedition Race and the Series took home over $30,000 in cash prizes and Team Golite/Timberland were the series winners.
