Vaude Highland Fling

Wild Horizons / 18.10.2006
Entries for the VAUDE Highland Fling MTB Marathon on 12 November have now closed with 1100 riders descending on the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW to take on their own challenge through forest, farmland and flinging country. Past highland cattle, bagpipers and marauding Celts.........

Around two thirds of the field will take on the Full Fling of 104km with the balance doing the Half Fling and a few teams getting it together in a Flinging Threesome. A mere 6 individuals will take on the 100Mile(160km) Fling due to the extremely tight finishing times put on this of no more than 8 hours. 40 Elite men and 10 Elite Women will battle it out for the cash, the titles and the glory with the winning time expected to be around 4 hours.

Whilst all categories from Elite to Grandmasters will be tightly fought, participation is everything in the Fling and for many riders, rolling across the line up to 10 hours after after starting the race is a win all on its own. Indeed as reward for this participation the man and woman achieving the average time in the race will be awarded the Australian MTB Marathon Championship green&gold tartan jersey!

The VAUDE Highland Fling, now in only its second year, starts and finishes in the village of Bundanoon on Sunday November 12 with the leg warming 5km Bundanoon Dash taking place on the Saturday evening. Bundanoon is 2 hours south of Sydney.
