Take the Arctic Team Challenge

Rob Howard / 15.11.2006
Entries open today (Nov. 15th) for the 2007 Arctic Team Challenge. Only 15 entries will be accepted to ensure the quality and safety of the race and to minimise the ecological impact on the terrain and wildlife of East Greenland. Entries will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis to qualified teams and the cut-off date is June 15th 2007 or when the race is filled.

The small number of teams and the unique setting make this race an exceptional adventure racing experience and many of the worlds most travelled international racers describe it in glowing terms, often as the best race of their lives.

The event promises 24 hours of daylight, huge icebergs, vast glaciers, monumental mountains and crystal clear air during a 5-day no-nonsense adventure through 250 kilometres and 10,000+ metres of ascent.

The entry fee of 5,760 Euro is a full package all included for teams of 4 and includes: Airfare from Iceland to Greenland, transport from the airport on Kulusuk Island by speedboat or helicopter (depending on the ice situation) plus 10 days of accommodation and catering. Also included are the provision of a team canoe with a personal security boat, tents for the night at the base camp and the post-race dinner and party.

There is also a category for Corporate teams this year, after Danish construction company Pihl A/S took part last year as a team building exercise. This was highly successful and the new category will be for teams of 2-4 with a flexible course to allow teams to choose the number of days on which they take part.

You can get a feel for the race by watching the race video on the website. At the moment a low res. video (5 MB) is available and this will be followed by a high res. version (20 MB) in early December.
