World Championships Increases Entry Limits
Rob Howard / 12.01.2007
Entry for the 2007 ARWorld Championships in Scotland close today, and as expected the race has been heavily oversubscribed.“The entry has been phenomenal,†said Race Director Phil Humphreys, “and we certainly have the very best racers and teams in the world coming to race in Lochaber, on Scotland’s West Coast.â€
“We’ve accepted entries from over 20 nationalities and over the past 6 weeks have completed a rigorous selection process based on the ARWorld Series criteria. We need to be sure the teams coming to Scotland have the experience and skills for a
World Championship course which will test them to their absolute limits.â€
Since entries opened on December 1st there have been 5 ‘waves’ of selection, 10 each in the first 4 waves, and today the teams receiving the final places will get their notifications. It’s been a long and worrying wait for them, but the good news is the organising team have overcome some logistical obstacles and been able to increase the entry limit from 45 to 60 teams.
As a result 20 teams will receive their confirmation of entry today, instead of 5 as originally planned. These include some world-class teams who left it very, very late to put in an entry!
However, there were considerably more than 60 entries, so there is a wait list as well. Teams in this position still have a good chance of taking part. The difficulties of raising the necessary finance and preparing for a major race, and the possibility of injury, means that accepted teams may yet have to withdraw.
The next stage of entry is for the remaining teams to accept their places and pay their initial deposits. The final entry list will then be published on February 19th on www.arwc2007.com.
