Announcing Canada’s First Relay Adventure Race [OAKVILLE, CANADA].Having lured over 3,600 eager adventure-seekers to Axis Gear STORM the Trent since it was first launched in 2002, the producer of Canada’s largest off-road multi-sport event is once again adding a new twist to the adventure racing standard.
Widely recognized as an all-inclusive variation of the sport for both serious racers and wide-eyed beginners, STORM events have become distinguished as being a unique alternative to traditional adventure race formats.
Now, STORM Racing has unveiled its newest approach to creating multi-sport adventures for all levels; Axis Gear STORM the 10. Best described as the fusion of a mountain bike relay with adventure race disciplines, Axis Gear STORM the “Ten†has been designed to combine the energy and adrenaline inherent to adventure racing with the Woodstock atmosphere of 8-hour or 24-hour mountain bike events.
The race features a 10km single-loop course made up of short-distance paddling, mountain biking and trail running sections, attempted as many times as possible over a 10-hour period.
Hosted at renowned mountain biking destination Kelso Conservation Area, the design of the course will be one that condenses all the multi-discipline excitement of an adventure race into roughly one-hour loops.
Race Director Sean Roper has been quietly formulating this hybrid adventure race concept over the past two years, with the hopes of breathing new life into the sport. “The atmosphere at any given mountain bike relay event is so incredibly laid-back and fun - I just new there had to be a way to apply that element to an adventure race.
