Rob Howard / 28.02.2007
Initially under the code-name Mountain Sports Games, the new Saab Salomon Alpine stage race has now been officially named the Mountain-X Race. The race will be a contest held over 5 consecutive days, involving 5 different sports and open to the current top 80 male, female or mixed teams in outdoor sports.
The first edition of the race will take place in France from July 2 to 7, 2007 in the Savoie - Mont Blanc region. A new and innovative international event capable of accommodating 80 of the world’s best outdoor sports teams, the event will be celebrative, convivial, modern and unremittingly demanding on the sporting level.
In short: male, female or mixed teams of 3 athletes plus support will participate in one outdoor discipline per day (mountain biking, white-water, rope-works, canyoning, mountaineering, trail running).
In addition to each day’s principle sporting discipline, a trail running competition, covering between 5km to 25km, will also be incorporated into the day’s proceedings. The trail running is of course run individually, and in two categories: male and female. In addition, overall team performances on The Trail Running Challenge will count towards the final team ranking.
Feedback from outdoor teams all over the world has been very positive and over 30 teams have already registered, representing 12 nationalities.
