Malaysia’s new Eco-Games Series Adventure Race enjoys strong support from their federal government – aiming both to promote sport within the country and to “put Malaysia on the international map for AR.” The 5-day championship is open both to Malaysian teams who have qualified via two 24-hr qualifying races, the first of which will take place May 5 and 6, as well as to international teams. The championship, which will take place in late October, will be open to a total of 100 mixed teams of four. Malaysia’s spectacular landscape, and the total prize pool of US$215,000, are sure to attract a strong and competitive international crowd.

PUTRAJAYA – The stage is set for Adventure Racers to pit their skills in Malaysia for the Eco-Games Series Adventure Race (Eco-Games) which was launched by YB Dato’ Liow Tiong Lai, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. Also present at the event was Mr John Zevgolis, Managing Director of Teamworks International Sdn Bhd.

Conceptualised and organised by Max Quest Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Teamworks International Sdn Bhd, the Eco-Games aims to put Malaysia on the international map of adventure racing. “The Eco-Games serve as a platform to establish an international standard adventure race series in Malaysia. Blessed with a challenging landscape and weather, Malaysia has all the potentials to emerge as a world-class location for adventure racing,” explained Mr John Zevgolis.

The concept for the Eco-Games will be based on the non-stop Expedition Adventure Race involving various disciplines such as trekking; mountain biking; kayaking; swimming and rope work.

Competitors will run along the paths used by wild animals travelling to their favourite watering holes. En route to the finish line, competitors will see mud holes dug by boars and a wide variety of animal tracks.
