Commenting upon the decision to go Carbon Neutral, Event Director Huw Kingston of Wild Horizons said:‘We\'ve always been a little concerned about the resources our events use and the amount of fuel used by riders travelling to them. We\'ve justified this by the fact that if people weren\'t riding one of our events they\'d still be doing something else for the weekend - driving, riding, eating and drinking - and the fact that such events offer huge health and social benefits. We have employed a consultant to calculate the CO2 production involved with running the event itself and the transport to the event by the 2000 riders and supporters and to select an accredited business through whom we will purchase Carbon Credits’
Kingston added:
‘Wild Horizons will cover the cost of Carbon Credits for the event and the entry form will have an optional charge for riders to pay to neutralize their travel to the event. We felt it important to get entrants to make that decision themselves, to play a part in the process, rather than us just including the cost in the entry fee. There will be 3 options depending on how far riders are travelling and whether by car or plane’.
