12 and 24-hour Racers on Standby
Rob Howard / 12.06.2007
The UK’s first 12-hour adventure race takes place in less than 10 days time, on 23/24 June. Based around Barbon, a few miles north of Kirby Lonsdale on the west side of the Yorkshire Dales, the Open12 will feature biking and running plus all the fun bits - abseiling, caving, etc - that you’d expect on longer races. The Open12 bridges a gap between the popular Open5 series of 5-hour events, and the challenging Open24 race. It is open to male, female and mixed pairs and spaces are still available if you move fast. The Open5’s are probably the fastest growing race series in the UK, and all those who’ve entered the Open24 in the past have given it rave reviews, so the new Open12 has an impressive pedigree.
Places are already filling fast for the Open24 on 28/29 July. With a Lake District venue planned, race organiser James Thurlow commented, “For us it’s a pretty special race incorporating all the ‘trouser-fillers’ that many people expect in a true AR event, plus a special twist that’s never been done before.†Wonder what that could be? .... There are not many things in AR that have not been done before!
Don’t forget that for the truly committed, the hotly-contested Endurance Series consists of the Keswick Open5 event, the Open12 and Open24. So, if you raced in Keswick it would be a shame to miss out on the rest!
