Toughest 2-day Adventure Race in the U.S. just got tougher!” Odyssey to add another day to EFIX

Press Release / 04.08.2007
Lookout, WV: Slated for early 2008, 50 teams of 2 and 4 persons, along with soloists, will take to the mountains of West Virginia for the 17th Edition of the Odyssey Endorphin FIX Adventure Race, widely touted as the “Toughest 2–day race in the US.” The EFIX will expand to a 3-day expedition style race to fulfill the constant requests from racers across the country to have an epic and challenging expedition race that requires a lower financial and time commitment than that of a full 7-day, or more, event.
The Endorphin Fix will also provide an opportunity for Eco-Primal Quest teams to “test” their physical abilities, as well as fine-tune race strategy and team dynamics well before it’s all on the line - the starting line of Primal Quest that is! An additional bonus of extending the Endorphin Fix to a three-day race is that it will serve as a qualifier to Eco-Primal Quest. Don Mann, former owner of Odyssey and current CEO of Eco-Primal Quest, and Ronny Angell, Owner and President of Odyssey, are at work finalizing the details.
“The EFIX is already known throughout the country as one TOUGH event, so expanding it will give racers with less time and money the chance to get a taste of what an expedition event is all about,” states Ronny Angell.
The epic event will once again be designed by Joy Marr, Co-Founder of Odyssey and long time Course Designer and Logistics Manager for most of Odyssey’s events. Marr has now designed and managed over 150 multi-day, multi-sport events, including Expedition BVI, Beast of the East, USARA Championships, Odyssey Adventure Leadership Trainings and the well respected Odyssey Adventure Racing Academy.

Marr states jokingly, “You know what adding one more day means, right?—more epic sections of mountain biking, trekking, multiple segments of fixed ropes, challenging orienteering, and some great water segments—whitewater, flat-water, paddling and swimming—and, of course, the signature OAR trait: monumental elevation gain and loss!”

Angell adds, “The rich history of this Odyssey classic ensures that the event will be a racer’s race: low on glitz and high on epic; giving racers an intense physical, emotional and mental challenge. While the exact location of the race must remain a secret until winter 2007, racers can expect to see the best and biggest West Virginia has to offer.”
