Team GB Grab the Bull by the Horns in Pamplona

20.08.2007
Allister Sheffield from bath has returned triumphant from the Sure For Men Extreme Pamplona adventure race. The 30-year-old teacher was flown out to the historical Spanish town with his five team mates, where he had to compete in a series of punishing races and assault courses in order to bring home the crown for Britain.

Under the watchful eye of ex-SAS hard man and team captain Chris Ryan, Team GB faced the tough 48-hour, four-stage event, mostly undertaken in the searing Spanish heat. The first challenge was a nocturnal laser gun battle through an historic citadel followed the next day by an 8km fell running race and assault course which Allister won clocking an incredible time of 34 minutes 36 seconds.

The penultimate challenge was a vertigo inducing 3km treetop assault course, testing upper body strength and mental nerve, which Team GB legend Allister won again. The final test was a 1km all out hill sprint through the infamous streets of Pamplona and into the bullring where the Grand Finale was held.

Out of over thirty competitors, all six of Team GB made it through to the final sixteen. The finalists from three countries then competed in a series of intense one-on-one races around the bullring, scaling high platforms and scrambling through cargo nets. Allister took first place in the Sure For Men Extreme Pamplona, with the UK’s Trevor Misson coming second and Tim O’Brien third.

Allister said: “This was the most intense thing I’ve ever done. With little recovery time between events and the temperature reaching over one hundred degrees it was a real struggle to just get through it”.
