Keen Alps to Ocean Adventure Race, Entries Open Soon
Andrew Connelly / 05.09.2007
This year’s Keen Great Ocean Road Adventure Race was organised by Rapid Ascent and planned by John Jacoby, and the same team will be back again in 2008, this time with a different theme. The second running of the Keen Adventure Race takes competitors from the Alps to the Ocean in another extraordinary journey through some of the wildest places in Australia and will be held from April 8th - 12th, 2008.
The race disciplines will include lake, river and ocean paddling; trekking / running; mountain biking; canoeing; ropes and caving in one epic 400km adventure. Competitors will start in the picturesque Alpine resort of Falls Creek on the Bogong High Plains, and navigate through an incredible range of landscapes and wilderness all the way to the Ocean. Racing over mountain summits well above the tree line, down remote mountain rivers, through hidden caves and deep gorges, and along stunning stretches of coastline to finish where the rivers meet the sea at Lakes Entrance in East Gipsland, Victoria, Australia.
The race will have 4 stages over 5 days of adventure and the premier category will see competitors race in teams of two for the duration of the event. The 2008 version will also see some important changes including new category called \"2 of 3\" (where teams of 3 compete with only 2 racing at a time). This will allow a self-support option using their spare (resting) team member instead of using up friendship credits for the all-important support crew. Entrants will also be able to book a boat with their entry to help make life easier, while swimming and big seas ocean paddling will be kept to a minimum.
