Baja Travesia Joins the Adventure Racing World Series
Rob Howard / 13.09.2007
Baja Travesia are the latest expedition race to join the Adventure Racing World Series, so the 2008 race is now a qualifier for the Adventure Race World Championship, and is currently the only such qualifier in all of North America.Geoff Hunt, ARWS Director commented; \"I am delighted to have the Baja Travesia in the ARWS. I have known Paul and Karen for a long time and they bring their dedication and passion to the sport of adventure racing so I look forward to seeing the fantastic race that they put on. It is great to have a US qualifier for the ARWS and this will give the competitors in the Baja Travesia a chance to win a free entry to the Adventure Race World Championship in Brazil \'08.\"
Race Director Paul Romero added: “We are lucky to have the undiscovered terrain of Baja California in our backyard, an adventure racing playground that gives us the opportunity to create another brand new course. Just when you thought you\'ve seen it all, there is more to be seen in Baja. This course will impress even the most hearty of expedition racers. It’s guaranteed!
Baja Travesia is no ordinary expedition event. It\'s a journey across the Baja Peninsula, an event that will challenge each team to the fullest and at the finish line reward them with the knowledge of their incredible accomplishment and memories for a lifetime.â€
Teams will need to prepare for ocean paddling, alpine mountaineering, basic rope activities, desert trekking, mountain biking, canyoneering, and of course the infamous Baja rally Cars, which are a unique feature of our race – and loads of fun!
In a change with past race the 2008 race will require all teams to bring a support crew and they will once again bring their own boats and mountain bikes.
Due to the remoteness and point-to-point nature of this event, there will once again be a limit on the number of teams to ensure the full remote experience for all contestants. \"We have had many early registration requests from international teams, and we expect interest to increase as the news of our joining the AR World Series hits the circuit.\" Said Romero.
Races dates are March 22-29th and can find out all you need to know about the race at www.bajatravesia.com.
