Salomon/Crested Butte Wins Vail Adventure Xstream

On September 8th, more than 250 adventure racers battled it out for prize money, fame and points in the AXS series at the Vail Adventure Xstream 12 hour and Sprint adventure races.Competitors at the 12 hour race competed in a 60-mile course testing their skills in trail running, mountain biking and whitewater kayaking across challenging Rocky Mountain terrain. Navigating the course checkpoints also challenged team dynamics and mental strength.
Competitors in the Sprint Race enjoyed an abbreviated version of the 12 hour course, over roughly a 25+ mile course.
“Vail’s course is great training as racers head into the Xstream Expedition,†said Race Director, Will Newcomer. “We are looking forward to returning to the Vail area again next year.â€
A battle for first place among the top teams in the 4 Person Co-ed category ensued early in the race with Team Salomon/Crested Butte and Team Four Corners Adventure Racing right on each other’s heels. Team Salomon/Crested Butte ended up maintaining their lead and came in first with a winning time of 6 hours. Less than 2 minutes later, Team 4 Corners Adventure Racing crossed the finish line. Team BagelWorks came in third place.
First place solo male finisher in the Vail 12-hr race was Charlie Nuttleman with a winning time of 6 hours and 45 minutes. First place solo female finisher in the 12-hour race went to Emily Johnston.
The winner in the 2-person co-ed category 12 Hour Race was won by Team GoLite (Tiffanie & Brooks Beal) with a finishing time of 7 hours and 35 minutes.
