03.10.2007
Together, Team Salomon/Crested Butte, biked, kayaked and trekked 300 miles and gained almost 32,400 feet of elevation during the 4th Annual Xstream Expedition Adventure Race. The team successfully navigated sections of mountain biking, trekking, flat and white-water paddling, and a ropes course that included a via ferrata up an arch and a rappel of almost 300 feet to win the 4 person co-ed elite division.Team Salomon/Crested Butte (Bryan Wickenhauser, Jari Kirkland, Eric Sullivan and Jon Brown) completed the full course in 71 hours and 18 minutes. Team Captain Bryan Wickenhauser said, “We had a blast. We are stoked to finally win the Moab Xstream Expedition race after having placed second, three years ago. The venue is awesome, with spectacular scenery to help easy the pain of the 32,000+ feet of elevation gain during the race.â€
Team 4 Corners Adventure Racing (Rick Callies, Emily Bear, Tom Ober and Vic Rudolph) took 2nd place and third place in the 4 person co-ed elite category went to AR Fit.
First place 2 person team and overall winner was Team Bagelworks (Matt Hannon and Andrew Hamilton) with a winning time of 58 hours and 28 minutes.
The top teams remained gathered around the finish line to cheer on the next teams to come through – sharing the agony of the preceding days while recalling the funny moments, beautiful scenery and sleep deprived hallucinations. A post race dinner and party was held at Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge on Sunday evening.
The AXS Adventure Race Series and the Xstream Expedition Race will be broadcast on Altitude Sports Network in mid-November.
