Geoquest off to the Sapphire Coast

Entries have now opened for the Mountain Designs Geoquest 48 hour race in June and the competition area has been announced.

This year the race will be held on the magnificent Sapphire Coast of NSW, a stunning piece of coastline that stretches from Bermagui in the north, down to the border of Victoria. As it’s half way between Sydney and Melbourne and only a couple of hours from Canberra, it’s an accessible venue for all those cities. The race organisers promise he venue is “ a rare stretch of coastal treasures boasting unspoiled golden beaches, rocky sea cliffs, lush hinterland and serene lakes.”

They have the familiar disciplines of trekking, mountain biking and sea kayaking on the course, but with no suitable abseil site have replaced a ropes stage with snorkelling in waters said to have 40 metre visibility.

For those who want a little more comfort than a tent at race HQ they’ve even put in place a booking system for cabins. You book when you enter, although you won’t know where exactly you’ll be going until 3 weeks before the race. Latest news is that 5 of the 10 cabins have gone so get in quick if you want one. If you do want to camp (or have to as all the cabins have gone) it’s free though.

If you can’t race they are looking for volunteers to help and if you do want to enter don’t leave it too late, before April 18th you get a discounted entry fee.

Visit the race web site for all the details and entry forms.
