PowerBar Continue Sponsorship of 3 Peaks Yacht Race
Rob Howard / 13.11.2007
Following last year’s sponsorship of the 30th anniversary race PowerBar have announced their continued sponsorship of the Barmouth to Fort William 3 Peaks Yacht Race, one of the oldest adventure sports events in the UK calendar.Philip Annett, Global Business Head for Performance Nutrition at Nestlé Nutrition, made the announcement at the conclusion of the recent prize giving dinner held in Caernarfon. Mr Annett travelled from Switzerland for the prize giving, always a glittering occasion as the race has more impressive cups and trophies than any other. One of these is the ‘Royal Hotel Cup’ for the first leg of the race, and fittingly the presentation was held in the same hotel, now renamed the Celtic Manor, which is only a few hundred metres from the jetty where the yachts come ashore for the first time in the race.
Mr Annett was impressed with the spirit and organisation of the race and the mass media coverage it generates, and a special 90 minute cut of the Dream Team TV footage of this year’s race was screened during the dinner which was attended by the majority of the crews who took part.
The main prize winners of the night were winners Vlad the Impaler (Greg Marsh, Will Appleby, Ric Searle, Keith Reed & Adam Marcinowicz) who took The Daily Telegraph Cup and trophies for all three legs of the race.
There was another clean sweep of the principal running trophies by Martin Beale and Josh Schouten who took won the Damart Cup for the Mountain Aggregate (Kings of the Mountains) and cups for fastest times on each of the peaks. Martin collected the trophies (understandably Josh didn’t fly in from Tasmania!) on behalf of all his team, saying the way the sailors had brought them into Whitehaven through the foul weather off St. Bees Head was one of the greatest sporting achievements he has ever witnessed.
