In an announcement on the TrailBlazers website general message board, Tony Berwald spread the word of the return of the NGAR, North Georgia Adventure Race. The race website describes the race as a 30 hr unsupported race to be held on either June 27, 2008 or July 11, 2008, dates are tentative as the race is still in the planning stages. The race venue is slated to be in the Chattahoochee National Forest, either in Suches or Blue Ridge, GA. If the venue sounds familiar it should, this is the same area as the CheckPointZero Adventure Race and the 2008 GoLite USARA Adventure Race National Championships. With these three races participants can experience this region during three of the four seasons. The race is slated to be a “"no frills" event, just grassroots, low cost, high quality racing going back to the origins of adventure racing.†There will be no support required and a central transition area will be utilized. Gear list for the race has been paired down to the essentials as paddling is not expected to be part of the race. Anticipated categories are co-ed and same sex two-three person teams as well as soloist
Registration is expected to open on December 15, 2008 with a cost per racer of $110. The race will be part of the CheckPoint Tracker Adventure Racing Series and count towards a teams point totals.
The race website promises, “This race will be just like the other NGAR events except it likely will be hot instead of cold!†As soon as details are finalized the event will be posted to the SleepMonsters calendar. Until then visit the race website at: www.oegear.com/ngar.php
