New Series Promises ‘6 in the Peak’ and Some Surprises
12.12.2007
Peak District based event organisers Dark and White have announced their 2008 ‘Six in the Peak Adventure Race Series’. The events will be in the increasingly popular location of the Peak District and each event, as the name suggests, will be 6 hours long and score based. Each event will principally be based around Adventure Biking and Adventure Running, with a different ‘Adventure Challenge’ to test competitors and to help develop the skills of the racers. This new twist to shorter events could include rope work, scrambles up and around water, night navigation and canoeing/kayaking. With the extensive local knowledge available to the organisers it has been suggested by one of the co-founders of Dark and White, Adrian Boyes that “racers should expect the unexpected. We have a few surprises up our sleeves for 2008 and will also be looking to offer the more experienced racers a testing choice of routes, with natural challenges and the opportunity to score high points on the Adventure Challengesâ€.
Designed to appeal to both novices and highly experienced racers, the series will be awarded to the racers with the highest score from three events. Racers will have the opportunity to complete as much or as little of the course as they want with the best having to scrap to find every able point within the time limit. The competition is open to solo competitors and pairs (male and female solo plus male, female and mixed pairs).
The fourth event, which takes place on the 14th and 15th June, will be a two-day event. Racers will have a Saturday late afternoon/evening prologue and can expect some night-time navigation before returning to camp to meet up with their fellow racers and competitors. Boyes commented, “We wanted something different that would test competitors and we are already planning a few extra surprises for this event that will give everyone something to talk about post race!â€
