Mountain State to host the Endorphin FIX Spring of 2008
Press Release / 17.12.2007
On April 24, 2008, 50 teams of 2 and 4 persons, along with soloists, will take to the mountains for the 17th Edition of the Endorphin FIX Adventure Race, widely touted as the “Toughest 2–day race in the USâ€. The EFIX will expand to a 3-day expedition style format in answer to the persistent requests from racers across the country for a race that is both challenging and doable.OK. OK you say -- I’ve already heard the hype. Just tell me where it’s happening!
Odyssey is pleased to announce that the 3-day Endorphin FIX will take place in and around the New River Gorge in south central West Virginia. Don’t skim over that word ‘around’ --since the already epic event is going long this edition, we have added some altogether new terrain for you to hike, bike and paddle on. Never mind the already great rope sites, fun, but challenging whitewater swimming and tough orienteering of past races -- look for added flat w a ter canoeing, and new for an EFIX: whitewater rafting!
“Racers who participated in the Wild Wonderful 24 hour race this past May loved the rafting,†says owner Ronny Angell, “and it certainly ranks high in the tally of the Best of West Virginia. We just had to fit it in.†Course Designer Joy Marr has been pouring over the maps, gleaning new and interesting areas to explore for this race. Says Marr, “this event will be a showcase of the area and give racers a real run for their money -- albeit closer to home.â€
The EFIX will be a supported race, an option offered only once before. Not only will racers looking to participate in longer events benefit from the added day of racing, their support crews will as well. “Having an opportunity to run a multi-day race with your support is paramount for peak performance. Working out the bugs early will especially help teams going on to Primal Quest or other supported races,†says Angell. “Since racers will be out for 3 nights, it will be a true taste of a real expeditionary event.â€
