Outdoor Quest Back in Borneo
Rob / 02.03.2004
The 8th Outdoor Quest multi-sport race will take place from October 28 - November 02 this year. The venue will once again be Sabah, Malaysia, where the 2002 and 2003 races were successfully held and the total prize money has been increased to USD 255,000, making it the highest in the world. With the addition of special prize money categories/stages, the winning team could potentially take home a winner’s cheque over USD70,000. The event will be open to a maximum of 24 teams and the OQ tradition of a deep prize money purse (running to the top 14 teams) will continue. The 2004 race will take place over five days. Stage one will be an enhanced prologue followed by stages two and three but then, in a new departure, day four will see the introduction of a full rest-day. This will enable teams to recover, enjoy the incredible Five Star Nexus Resort and then prepare for the final two stages on days five and six.
OQ 2004 will again feature the same cast of characters that have brought you the race in previous years. These include Race Director Murphy Reinschreiber, Course Director Ian Adamson, Technical Director John Howard, Director of Rigging Mick Hopkinson, Medical Director Dr. Bruce Beattie, Athlete Relations Director Sasha Atepolikhine and Executive Race Director Nick Freyer. The OQ\'s acclaimed athlete service will again be a special hallmark of the race, race entry fees will be all inclusive and are the same as for the 2003, and registration opens immediately.
A five-hour television series will be produced by TWI, which will be televised globally. The 2003 series has just been completed and has received rave reviews from those who have attended private screenings. 2003 teams will receive a complimentary set of the television shows this month. There is also a spectacular seven minute promotional video and CD-Rom with professional event photos.
The Course Design Team will begin arriving in Sabah in the next few days to complete the course which will feature some of the best elements from 2002 and 2003 combined with a number of new, never raced areas.
If you want to enter you can get further information from the Athlete Relations Director Sasha Atepolikhine at IMG in Hong Kong by emailing aatepolikhine@imgworld.com. The web site isn’t updated yet, but you can see all last year’s entry requirements to get an idea of what is required and the costs.
