An ideal venue for adventure racing, the University of Montana and Pattee Canyon Recreation Area will provide an exciting and challenging sprint adventure race. This event is USARA sanctioned which ensures participants a safe, well-organized, and enjoyable race. This adventure race is designed to be challenging, enjoyable, and accessible for athletes of all experience levels. The GrizzlyMan Adventure Race covers 23 miles of trail and open terrain, over 3500 feet of climbing on foot or bike, and will take most racers between 5-6 hours to complete. Disciplines include trekking, biking, orienteering, and exciting special challenges. Registration is limited to 300 participants and a wave start will minimize bottlenecks on the course.
Due to the preparation required for an event of this scale, race-day registration will not be permitted. The Race Expo will feature local businesses and charities. The Expo will feature activities for children, food vendors, and shopping to pass the time for spectators.
A bonus for racers is the GrizzlyMan Adventure Race Clinic Series, scheduled at the Missoula, MT REI. Three clinics will be held at the Missoula REI in preparation for the GrizzlyMan Adventure Race. Each clinic will include hands-on training by REI experts and race personnel. Additionally, if you sign up for a new REI Co-op membership and the same time you register for the GMAR, you will receive a $2 discount on your race registration. Areas to be covered during the series include Adventure Racing Basics, Orienteering and Terrain Association, and Emergency Bike Maintenance. Please visit the REI website for details, www.rei.com/stores/72.
The Kidventure is an adventure race for the kids that will feature treasure hunt style navigation, an inflatable obstacle course, and prizes for all participants. Kidventure is intended for all children to age 12.
