The CuCuhulain Challenge

CuCuhulain was the greatest Ulster warrior according to Celtic myth and legend. He is also known as the Hound of Ulster. His is a legend of superhuman effort.

We (CCAR) will unleash our \"hounds\" on at dawn on Saturday 2nd of May for their superhuman efforts.
This race will require individual and team effort to race across the north of the ancient kingdom of Ulster, from the wild west coast of Donegal to the scenic east coast of Antrim (part of the ancient kingdom of Dal Riada which included Scotland)
The race will involve teams of 3 or 4. (kayaking not included in three person teams) Individual members will race in the relay style event which will last up to 36hrs non-stop. Each member must complete at least one stage on each of the two days. Logistics will be an important element of the race format. The format is very similar to that of the longer Hebridean Challenge which is held in Scotland during July each year.
The teams will swim, run, road bike, mountain bike and kayak in stages lasting from 30mins to 2hrs-3hrs. Each stage will form part of a journey across Donegal, Derry and Antrim.
Teams will be able to gain time bonuses by having 2 or more team members on certain stages. The team with the shortest combined time wins.
Only one vehicle is allowed per team and no further assistance from outside the team is allowed. It is advisable that at least two team members can drive the team vehicle. Vehicles must follow the race notes or gain time penalties.
There may be one dark zone where teams may have to stop until daylight breaks, this will depend on how fast each team negotiates the course and the terrain on Saturday.
Accommodation will be camping. Teams will need to supply all their own equipment and food during the race.
We will have a final team Ceilidh with free meal and prize giving on Sunday evening, in a lovely little pub at the foot off, one of the Nine Glens of Antrim.
