Poles Come to UK For Dirty Weekend

Rob Howard / 14.04.2008
News of the groundbreaking Dirty Weekend multi-sport adventure festival being organised by Detail Events in the Scottish Borders in July has quickly reached the continent ... and the first team who entered the new Elite category of the ACE Races part of the weekend were the top Polish team, Speleo.

They no doubt have their ‘eyes on the prize’ and will offer stiff resistance for UK teams hoping for a shot at the £5000 prize money on offer. (This is by far the biggest in the history of UK racing.) Speleo are Poland’s top team, taking the honours at events throughout Europe in 2007 and finishing an impressive 10th at the 2007 World Champs in Scotland.

They will be heading for Traquair House in the Scottish borders on the weekend of July 5/6th, along with all the other ACE Racers, Polaris Challenge competitors, runners who want to try the new Dirty Dozen adventure run, and friends, family and spectators who want to enjoy the event village activities and see some of the competition. It’s going to be quite a weekend!

Jim Mee, Managing Director of Detail Events, said: \'There\'s nothing quite like a Dirty Weekend in the Scottish countryside. This event brings us back to our roots in the outdoors and we\'re delighted to be able to offer such a thorough format as we have been able to muster with the Dirty Weekend. For anyone keen to try something new and exciting from the world of adventure sport, chances are we have an event for them here. Whether it\'s trying their hand at adventure racing, mountain biking on some of the Borders\' world-class bike trails with a map in hand or simply taking part in a classic 12km off-road run, the Dirty Weekend is designed to really pack a punch here. The terrain is epic, the venue is superb and the support from local partners to date has been first rate.\'

The triple crown of adventure activity on offer includes both a 1 and 2 day ACE Race offering, and the Elite race, which will carry on into the night after the regular 2-day racers have settled into their sleeping bags. Polaris riders have experienced the world-class trails and fabulous countryside in the Tweed valley before and will relish the prospect of a return for 2 days of competition, while the Dirty Dozen is a brand new event for runners who want a jog on the wild side. (Those who are entering should take a look at the photos from the Deerstalker, which also took place from Traquair earlier this year ... )
