No strangers to tough competition the Aussies pushed hard all the way, speaking with Rob Preston before the race he mentioned "the course looks like it suits a strong trekking team, with not much paddling, but we don't know the last 24hrs of the course yet"As it turned out the Team exited kayaks on Sunday/Monday in the wee hours after about an 8 hour stint and didn't see the kayaks again till wednesday afternoon.
You can be certain the team didn't mind this having spent 5 days driving from Capetown to the race venue.
After good results at the last 2 XPD and Keen Adventure Races, the team had been looking forward to competing against a very international field. 43 teams from 15 nations were entered including top French team Lafuma Sport 2000, Buff Coolmax of Spain, Bjufors Adventure Racing from Sweden and South Africa’s highly fancied USN. In the end Damon, Kim, Rob and Richard finished 4th behind USN (the race winners), 2nd place McCain Adventure Addicts and 3rd placed Bjufors Adventure Racing.
