Excitement builds in West Aus
Naantali Marshall - Rapid Ascent / 18.09.2008
Racing in teams of four over two days of competition covering a memorable 200km with the course being a mystery to competitors until the race briefing on Friday night. They can be sure it will be full of surprises and will showcase the region’s best natural features as they navigate their way by foot, mountain bike, ocean/river paddling and rappelling, while strictly respecting the natural environment. With former Olympians, aspiring amateurs and seasoned adventure racers all covering the same course they will vie for a share in the cash and prizes on offer. The 50 team spots filled months in advance demonstrating the enthusiasm for this new sport by the WA sporting community. Being different to more typical ‘expedition length’ adventure races this ‘stage race’ is more accessible and is a faster paced format designed for maximum enjoyment for athletes and spectators. Each leg will consist of between 1 to 4hrs of continuous racing and after completing several legs and disciplines on day 1 competitors will stay together at an overnight camp before restarting the following day for a final dash to the finish line back where it all started in Albany’s vibrant town centre.
