Dynamic Adventure Races are Back After the Summer Break
Rob Howard / 18.09.2008
It’s been a while since the last Dynamic Adventure Race, but one of the UK’s most popular series is back for the Autumn and already looking forward to next year.The series resumes with the next event in the beautiful Quantock Hills on the weekend of October 4/5th in the familiar format, with the Challenge race for novices on Sunday and the Endurance race for more experienced racers on Saturday. (The exact location will be announced in about a week’s time.) Races are open to solos, pairs or teams of three.
The next venue for this year is the Marlborough Downs on November 29/30th, and as this is a winter event the Challenge race will include an optional, hour long, navigational stage and the Endurance race will finish in the dark. The events are always popular and there is not entry on the day, so its always advisable to enter well in advance.
2009 Race Schedule
Plans are already in place for next year too and these are the dates for your diary;
Location - Endurance/Challenge
New Forest - 24th January/25th January
Dorset Hills - 21st March/22nd March
Purbeck Hills - 2nd May (D.A.R.E. - 12 hour event)/3rd May
South Wales - 17th October/18th October
North Downs - 28th November/29th November
After the very successful 12-hour Dynamic Adventure Racing Epic (DARE) in May earlier this year there are plans afoot to stage a similar event on May Bank Holiday in 2009, so keep a diary note. Full details will be released early next year.
'Zimmer Points'
A new introduction to the scoring system in the Endurance events is also being introduced – with 'Zimmer Points' being tried out at the October race.
This will be a system of bonus points added to the score of veteran racers to take into account the wear and tear on their tired bodies! However, DAR Directors Nicky and Simon have said, “As ageing racers ourselves, we very much understand the value of these points but we do also realise that sometimes with age comes great knowledge and experience! So in our calculations you can be assured that we won't be too generous with the 'Zimmer Points' enhancing the old folks score unfairly.â€
'Clearance Bonus'
The next event will also see the introduction of the 'Clearance Bonus' to the Challenge event. If you clear the course for any of the stages in the race and also return to base early, you will be awarded Bonus Points equivalent to the number of minutes early you return. The bonus points awarded will be equal in value to those taken as penalty points when you are late.
